It often turns into blame, shame, or distance. Correction happens, but emotions usually take over. Sometimes it is handled well and sometimes not. Correction usually happens while keeping connection. Mistakes can be handled with honesty, love, and guidance.

Question 3 of 3 If your daughter needed to tell you something difficult, how likely is she to come to you first?

she would probably avoid telling me. she might tell me only after things become serious. It depends on the issue and our mood. she would probably come to me. she would feel safe coming to me early and honestly.

Communication

How honestly and respectfully both people can talk, listen, and repair misunderstandings.

Question 1 of 3 When something is bothering either of you, how easy is it to talk before it becomes bigger?

The issue is usually avoided until it becomes a problem. Talking starts, but the conversation often gets difficult quickly. Sometimes we talk early and sometimes we wait too long. We usually talk before things build up. We can bring things up early, calmly, and honestly.

It often becomes hurtful, loud, cold, or disrespectful. One person usually gives up or withdraws. The results are mixed. We usually stay respectful even when it is hard. We can disagree and still protect the relationship.

Listening is very difficult right now. One person usually listens more than the other. Listening happens sometimes, but not consistently. We usually try to understand each other. Listening is one of the strengths in this relationship.

Boundaries and Respect

How well dignity, privacy, authority, independence, and personal choices are handled.

Boundaries are often ignored or fought over. Boundaries exist, but respect is inconsistent. Some boundaries are respected and others are unclear. Most boundaries are respected. Boundaries are clear, mature, and respected by both sides.

How care, correction, encouragement, practical help, and growth are offered and received.

It often feels controlling or unwanted. It helps sometimes, but can come across too strongly. It depends on the topic. It usually feels useful and caring. It feels steady, wise, caring, and strengthening.

Question 2 of 3 How easy is it for your daughter to ask you for help without feeling like a burden?

she would usually avoid asking. she asks only when there is no other option. Sometimes she asks and sometimes she holds back. she can usually ask for help. she can ask freely and know support will be steady.

Question 3 of 3 If a mentor looked at this relationship, what would he or she probably say about its growth right now?

The relationship needs urgent care and repair. There is care here, but some patterns are hurting trust. There are both strengths and weak spots. The relationship is growing in a healthy direction. The relationship shows strong trust, maturity, and care.
